The next Michael Phelps? Ok, maybe not.

After 50-billion years, here I am to update.

Noah had his Dr. appointment a few days ago to get a few shots, and also to check up on his speech. Over the last 2 months he'd added 10 words to his vocabulary, including animal sounds, so the Dr. says we don't need to worry about him. As long as he's babbling, mimicking, and gradually adding more words to his vocabulary, he's fine.

Oh, and I'm officially in my second trimester. People can't seem to agree on whether it starts at 12 weeks, or 13 weeks, so I just figured I'd go with the 13 weeks since pregnancy is definitely not only 36 week deal. So yeah, I'm 13 weeks now, and still not showing. Once I start showing I'll start taking belly pictures, but there's not really a point to it now. Maybe in a few weeks....

Since we live in a frickin' dessert, it gets to be really, really hot almost every day. Thankfully we live right in between our two neighborhood pools, so we take advantage of that and go swimming almost every day. Noah is definitely a water baby. One of the dads there couldn't believe how much Noah loved the water and jokingly asked me if he was a water birth. :) Hehe...that wasn't even an option for me.

The kid wants to swim. I was holding him on his tummy about 2 weeks ago so he could feel himself float, and he started kicking and moving his arms. I don't know where he's seen it, but he definitely hasn't seen me swim since I'm always carting him around with me in the pool. We were sitting on the steps in the pool and he goes and puts one hand on the top step, lets his feet float up to the top, and starts kicking and using his other arm. I was holding onto him, of course, but he pretty much gets to do what he wants to do, within reason, while we're in the pool. After all this swimming interest, I found what is seemingly the only pair of water wings made for his age, and bought them for him. After a few days, he was ready for me to let go of him and let him float in front of me by himself. Yesterday he even started kicking, although I was still lightly holding onto him, probably more for me than for him.

After about 20 minutes of swimming laps, he starts trying to get his water wings off, because then it's time to stand and the side of the pool, throw a water wing in, and then jump in and swim to get it. He doesn't actually "jump" though, so it's more of a running in to get it. This is pretty much my upper body work out since I'm lifting him up to the side of the pool once every 45 seconds for probably about 15 minutes straight. Earlier this summer I was feeling guilty 'cause I hadn't been lifting weights like I previously had been. Then I thought, "what am I thinking? I have a 25 pound weight that I'm lifting in the pool for an hour every day." I didn't feel so guilty anymore after that revelation. :)

I thought that since he loved the water and the pool so much, that I'd get him one of the little inner tube things for kids about his age so that he could float around by himself. It was more expensive than what I really wanted to spend, but considering we go "swimming" almost every day during the summer, it's relatively cheap entertainment. So, we tried it out a few days ago. There also happened to be a little girl at the pool that day who is about 6 months older than Noah. So anyways, I tried putting Noah in the new pool toy right away, and he immediately tried to get out. Since we weren't using it, I offered to let the little girl play in it while Noah was busy swimming laps and jumping off the side. She took full advantage of it. She kicked back and just watched Noah the whole time. She looked like she needed a martini or something. At least an orange juice with a little umbrella in it. After she left, and Noah had thoroughly worn himself out, we tried the float again. He loved it this time. I would push him a few feet away from me, and then tell him I was "gonna get you!" and swim to go get him. He laughed and laughed. So, the lesson learned is that I shouldn't try to put him in his float until he's all worn out.

After our pool time we always get out and hang out on one of the chairs by the pool for a few minutes so that when we get home we don't make a small pond on the floor. Right before we leave our chair, I always set Noah on the chair by himself so I can get everything ready to go. It's pretty cute the way he always lays back on the chair just like a big person. One of these days I'm gonna take Josh with us toting a camera so we can get some pictures and video of our pool time. Obviously I can't take pictures myself, so I'll need some help. Last year I could take pictures, but he wasn't nearly the active little boy he is now. Hmmm...it's supposed to be over 100 degrees on Sunday, so maybe Josh will even WANT to go then. :)

On a side note, do those red plastic cups smell awful to everyone, or is it just a pregnant super-sonic smell thing? I don't remember it bothering me before.... Oh well.
