Life With a Walking Little Boy

One of the things I hadn't thought of when Noah was learning to walk was that now he'd be able to carry things with him much more easily than when he was crawling. He's taken full advantage of this new ability, and I've been finding things in strange places. Add to that his ability to easily figure out how to take things apart, open things he shouldn't be able to open like say, locks on dishwashers, guitar cases, etc., and just being pretty mechanically inclined in general already at 16 months, and I find random things in very weird places. I've taken some pictures over the last few days with the crappy camera on my phone of things that I've come across that can only be Noah.

A bar of soap next to the xBox. Apparently he's
tall enough now to not only open the bathroom drawers,
but also to get things out of them. I will give him props though-
it was perfectly parallel to the xBox.

The phone in his Little People school.

My boot in the kitchen. What's especially
entertaining is to see him carry both of
Josh's size 13 shoes around with him, one in each hand. :)

A tube of toothpaste on the chair.

His blocks in the laundry basket.
At least they were mostly in one place.

My personal favorite, his Little People dog in the dishwasher.
Like I said, he's figured out how to unlock it.

Here's some other pictures of him I took recently. I was trying to get some cute smily picture of him, but he wasn't wanting to cooperate at that particular time. Too close to nap time, I guess. I got some cute ones anyway, just not exactly what I'd set out for.

His fake cry and "Pity me!" face.

My favorite, which I call, "Through the eyes of a Mommy." :)
I plan on framing this one.

PDA- Public Display of Appreciativeness

Thankfully, I don't get sick very often. The last time I was sick was last year when I had what Josh and I called "The Death Flu," and before that, it had been years since I'd been sick. Yesterday however, I was sick. It started with a sore throat, turned into a cold, and somehow ended up with cold and flu and a 24 hour migraine. My favorite. I was flat on my back yesterday unable to keep down a cough drop, or as I found out is not at all a pleasant experience, Dayquil.

This post is really to say how much I appreciate my men. Josh has had a sore throat and a cold the last few days, but as of now, he doesn't have the flu part of it. Anyways, yesterday I called him at work to see if there was any way he could possibly come home from work early to take care of Noah since I was pretty much useless. He was able to come home and take care of me a couple hours later. He fed Noah, with just a little bit of direction, played with him, put him down for naps, and even bathed and put him to bed, complete with story time. (Not to say he doesn't usually do this stuff, we just usually share and trade off different things.)

Noah was my perfect little angel yesterday. In the morning when it was just me at home, Noah kept himself occupied by playing with his toys, occasionally bringing me books to read to him, since I could handle that, and playing with the cat. He even went down for his nap without a peep, and slept for a good 2 hours.

Yesterday evening Josh had to go play on the band at our church, so once again it was just Noah and me. Again, he was the perfect child. He was quiet, and played by himself with the occasional story. (He's really into his books.) He didn't even get fussy when it got close to his bedtime like he typically does. He was very very good right up until Daddy put him in the bathtub.

All this to say, that if I absolutely have to get sick, I'm very appreciative of my husband, who can take care of everything, and my little boy, who makes it easy on his Daddy. (And on me when Daddy wasn't around.)

My little GPS

I just had to write about how my kid is a frickin' genius.

For Valentine's Day we all went out to lunch in Old Town Clovis to a little restaurant, and then we went in search of a coffee shop we had been to last time we were there. Unfortunately, Valentine's Day was on a Sunday, and a whole lot of places in Clovis are closed on Sundays, this particular coffee shop included, so we went back to an icecream shop we'd gone past while we were looking for coffee. We went in, ordered the icecream we were all going to share, and then went outside to sit at one of the little tables. After a few minutes, Noah didn't want anymore icecream and wanted to get down and walk around. I set him down on the sidewalk, and off he went. I followed him partly because I wanted to see where he'd go, and also to keep him from walking out into the road if for some reason he decided to try that. He went down the sidewalk a little ways, and then turned left into a building. It's one of those things that has a roof over it, but it's open on either end, and you can enter shops through the doors on either side. Anyways, he turned to go through here and Josh says, "Hey! There's our car!" Noah walked all the way to our car all by himself. Guess he was ready to go home. :)

A look into my little one's mind

Yesterday was our 4th wedding anniversary, and although we're doing the full on date night tonight, we thought it would just be wrong to not do anything special on the actual day, so our little family went on a little anniversary date to the Doghouse Grill. Doghouse is a local barbecue sports bar that has the most amazing tri-tip sandwiches. None of us were starving, so we got one sandwich and the three of us split it (they're massive sandwiches). We always get an order of their fries too, which is an important element of this story.

I was hungrier than Josh was, so Josh offered to take Noah while I ate my dinner. When Noah was with Daddy, he would eat a couple bites of meat and then Josh would give him a bite of a french fry, and then go back to the meat. Well, soon I was done with what I was going to eat, so I took Noah. I gave him meat. No french fries, just meat. After about 5 minutes of just eating the tri-tip, Noah reached his arms out to Josh which is his way of telling us that he wants to go be with Daddy now. Josh attempted to give him some tri-tip, but he didn't want it. He just pushed our hands away with his little arm. He was however, staring at the fries that Josh was eating. "Maybe he think's you're the only one that will give him fries..." So, Josh offered him some fries. He was more than happy to eat them. A few minutes later, he reached for me. "Maybe he wants meat now..." I offered him some, and sure enough he opened up his little mouth. Just because I was curious, I offered him a fry to see if he would eat it. He pushed my hand away. So, in his little mind, Mommy is the one that gives him his meat, and Daddy is the one that gives him his fries. He's my funny little boy. :)

Things are not always what they seem

One of the things Noah's not allowed to touch is our cat's food. Usually he's really good about staying away from it, but yesterday he was walking around in the kitchen while I was cooking, and hit her bowl with his foot and some food went flying out of it. I looked down and he was down there playing with it. "Noah, NO- Don't touch." He stopped touching it, and I went back to my cooking. I looked down again a few seconds later and he was was playing with it again. This time I noticed he was picking up the pieces one at a time, and putting them back in her bowl. He was just trying to help Momma out!

Just had to show off my little boy walking
outside all by himself.
